Pitch:

Can't stay forever is a simple looking but stylish Metroidvania game, all about exploration, getting new equipment and solving physics puzzles.

Gameplay:

The game features puzzles throughout, these are based always based on the players current abilities, or are meant to show the lack of an ability. As the player you must explore these caves to solve the puzzles and unlock equipment to solve the next puzzle.

Controls:

The game is controled via standard keyboard game contorls:

  • 'A' to go left,
  • 'D' to go right,
  • 'Space bar' to jump.
  • Eventually the mouse will be involved (no spoilers) this mechanic is a simple 'left click' action.

Imma say this now, the grapple hook kinda lets you cheese the game by going through walls. Yeah, you can keep grapple hooking and get out of a wall as well.

i spent half the game in a wall

if you jump against a wall you go super high

Very fun for what it is and cute, minimalistic art! Obviously could use some work but great for testing metroidvania mechanics. I think the best thing you could do from here is tighten up the controls!

Thanks for the game!

I liked how you worked with color and shape to communicate all the information without visual clutter. The 'grappling hook' mechanic was interesting to play with, although it led to some glitchy situations sometimes. It's interesting how the game taught me to play itself through interactions with the environment as new abilities expanded my possibility of space significantly. Also, I think the lighting effect was really great at directing attention to significant objects and room exits.

With that said, I did felt lost from time to time, unable to cohere a mental map of the game world (the space was too abstract!) and understand where I have to go to move forward. Also, it wasn't always clear if rays of light show you direction to the next room or are they just highlighting an object. Eventually, I got stuck and unable to finish the game.

Nevertheless, it was a nice experience!

Got the double jump, then arrives at a big cliff I can't got over and there's just nothing left to do. I got back and tried every place and no solution.

There is a solution, after you get the double jump, try going backwards and jump up towards where you came from, there will be a room above, that you could not reach previously

when you get to that room it is too tall

nvr mind lol

walljump

Neat puzzles!

I have a question, though: in the same room that i got the “left click action item”, i managed to get myself stuck in the ceiling.

Is this intentional? I only had to “left click” again, but then i saw that i was able to skip, as it were, many puzzles by passing through walls. It actually felt like a bit of a bug, but i am not sure if it was you just being clever with the puzzles :).

You are not supposed to get stuck in the ceiling, no. And to answer the question, yes the left click action will help you pass the puzzles that you had to go through earlier (one of the perks of getting the item. If you get stuck press 'r' that will respawn you, and you can continue without loosing anything. I will look into the issue of getting stuck, I have experienced it once or twice, but only when the FPS was low, so maybe I can fix it :)

Thanks
